Walk with the dad

I planned to do a little running with this morning’s work out while the little girl was at Sunday school. But…I forgot I invited my dad to walk with me. There went any running. That’s ok though. It was fun to walk with him. Our goal was to do 2 laps of the 1.4 mile loop. We had enough time…Sunday school is an hour. He hasn’t been doing much walking so he was a little winded after walking up a hill back to the church. I didn’t push him…just encouraged him to do walking during the week. He’s getting close to retirement…I want him to be around to enjoy it.

Turkey Trot recap

On Monday of this week, I decided it would be fun to get up early on Thanksgiving for some family fun.  We picked one very close to home.  It was 2 mile or 5 mile race.  We chose the 2 mile. 

It was a crisp, sunny morning.  We layered up and headed out.  I did my best to run, while the hubby and little girl walked.  I’m not sure what my time is yet.  My watch broke and now there are issues with the timing chips…ugh.  After I finished I spotted my family walking.  You couldn’t miss them…they looked so cute.  The hubby asked the little girl if she wanted to cut the race short…there was a turn off they could of taken.  She wanted to finish the entire 2 miles….good for her. 

It was a great start to a wonderful day.

Sunday morning walk

It was a crazy week…the weather was cold….my little girl was sick….and work keep me very busy. I did find time this morning to walk. Like last Sunday, I dropped her at Sunday school and walked the church’s neighborhood. I was able to walk faster this week since my slowpoke hubby wasn’t with me. This week should be a little better for working out.

Walk with hubby

We took the little girl to church to attend Sunday school; and instead of errands and such, we put our warm clothes on and walked through the church’s neighborhood. It was a nice walk…a little slow in my opinion. But I got the hubby out and excersicing…so I won’t complain too loud.

Gym time

I took advantage of the hubby being home and after the little girl’s dance class I went to the gym while they stayed home. I asked him if he wanted to go, but he was more interested in a nap.

I did a good 30 minutes on the elliptical. I finished the first mile in about 11 minutes (good for me). I rest of the time I alternated my speed…one song I kept it at 5.0 and the next song I kept it up to 7.0.

Time for a quickie

I worked 1/2 a day today.  I had a little over an hour to kill before I needed to be at my afternoon apointment.  So on my way from point A to point B I stopped at the gym.  I’ve been trying to keep my gym bag in the car, just in case.  I did a quick 20 minutes on the elliptical.  It was just what I needed…it put a bounce in my step.

Dang, it’s cold

One week ago, it was in the 70s. This morning I went outside to run and it was 32…and windy. What the heck? Mother Nature is having a major mood swing. I’m still working on the layers. I think it’ll take a couple of mornings to figure it out. I wasn’t too cold…except when I turned a corner and had a blast of wind in my face…which I could feel down to my feet (through my shoes). There is nothing worse then cold feet…expect maybe cold, wet feet. I will need to find some warmer socks, if I want to keep running outside this winter.

OMG…show me the chocolate - 5k race report

Oh where to start? Let’s just skip the race….I ran so-so. I have 2 excuses…I haven’t ran more than a 1 mile in 2-3 weeks and during the race - about .75 miles into it - I mistepped off the path and twisted my ankle a little. My ankle is fine.

Now…the after party. OMG…I have never seen so much chocolate. Ok…I know it’s not normal, but I’m not a huge chocolate fan. I know…you’re wondering how I get through PMS. ;) I like chocolate complimented with something else….like caramel or peanut butter. Yum.

The tent was ginormous…and inside nothing but Hershey. Our little group got in line soon after we finished. The smell was wonderful. Once inside…in front of us was a fondue buffet…graham crackers, marshmellow, bananas, and fondue fountian (7,000 oz). Beyond that they were serving up the best hot chocolate I ever had (24,000 oz). It was the perfect temperature…and there was even marshmellows for it. Along the sides of the tent they were handing out fun size samples of many Hershey treats….York Peppermint Patties, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Hershey bars, etc (200,000 pieces).

This was the first year for this race…I really hope it’s back again next year. Besides the chocolate treats, we also received very nice fleece jackets, a running hat, and a nice bag.

The totals above are from the race web site…and I can believe it. I didn’t think to take any pictures inside the tent, but if there are some posted later on the race site I’ll let you all know.
