Darker in the morning?
Are the days getting shorter already? Seems like it’s still dark when the alarm goes off at 5:15…which prompts me to hit the snooze button a couple of times…or reset it for 6:00 and go back to sleep. It’s going to get worse isn’t it? Blah…

I FINISHED!!
Yahoo! I did it. I ran..and finished my first 5k. And it felt fantastic!
The alarm went off at 5am and I got right out of bed. I grabbed a yogurt and turned on the weather channel. Last night the news said it was supposed to storm all day. There was some blue sky when I woke up.
We (my hubby, daughter, and me) left the house at 5:50. I drove…it helped keep my mind off the race…and my hubby was still half asleep. I picked up my sister on the way. At the race site, my site my sister and I got out of the car and left my hubby and daughter to park.
We picked up our chips and waited for our friend and my family. Once we were all together, we headed to the starting line.
The 3 of us started together, but slowly seperated by our individual speeds. We saw our families cheering us on as we started. It was amazing to see all these women with the same purpose…to finish.
The route wasn’t too bad. There were a few hills, but nothing too bad. The folks on the route cheering us on…offering words of encouragement…was great. Some of these people were just passing by on their bikes…they didn’t know anyone running.
I did a combination run/walk…but I’m proud to say it was more running than walking. I was glad to see the 3 mile marker…it was almost over. I was still under my goal time of 45 minutes. As I made the last turn…I could see the people lining the path…and hear their cheers. That was awsome! Several of the women who already finished were cheering for us as well.
Then out of nowhere my sister ran out of the crowd! She had already finished, but wanted to run with me across the finish line…sweet. I saw my hubby smiling and taking pictures…and my daughter jumping up and down cheering. Our friend’s hubby was there too.
Our little group all caught up…and eventually made our way to the kid races. My daughter was so excited. She had on her official race t-shirt. The 5 year old race was a 50 yard dash. I was with her at the starting line….Daddy was at the finish line…Auntie and friends were along the sidelines. She did great! She even received a medal when she finished. Daddy was so excited he didn’t have her picture while she ran. LOL
What a morning…and it was just 9:30! It was great sharing this experience with my family and friends. I am most proud of setting a healthy example for my daughter. I know that example is paying off by her excitement of the morning.

It’s been awhile…
It’s been awhile since I posted. There are a couple of reasons….first - the end of last week was pretty wet….lightning and thunder wet. Second - I was on vacation this past week. I will catch up on my workout posts.
Vacation was great…a week on the beach in Michigan. I did get in a few easy workouts…and I did my best to watch what I ate. But in a town with a few chocolate shops and ice cream parlors it was hard. I tried to balance it with eating a good breakfast at home everyday, splitting a sandwich with my daughter, and lots of walking…to town…to the beach…shopping.
The race is tomorrow….and I’m a little freaked out. I’ve never done this before. My goal is to finish…and I know I will. I want to run more than walk. I was able to get my heart rate monitor fixed on my trip, so that will help. It’s been hard working out without it.
Worry about it is not going to help. I need to concentrate on getting to bed early….and figure out how I’m going to get there. Everything will fall into place…I hope.

Vacation workout #1
My sister and I got up early and did a run/walk this morning. We ran along a road where we could see Lake Michigan.
It was different running with someone….I’m not sure I liked it. I’ve always thought of my early morning workouts as “My Time”. Fortunately, we had our mp3s on, so we didn’t have to talk to each other. LOL

Evening Ride
It was a beautiful evening for a ride. I do need a new bike. Mine is OLD….and it hasn’t been the same since I flew over the handle bars last year (helmets are a must!). The gears don’t shift very well…the brakes stick (hence the reason I thought I could fly last year). I’m going to take in for at least a tune up….maybe do some browsing while I’m at the bike shop.

Morning Walk
I did 3 laps of my new route. I usually workout with my mp3 player. Instead of listening to music, I listen to books. I love to read, but it’s hard to find the time. I download books from the library. Some people need the beat of the music to keep them going. I like a good story, and the better the book, the longer I workout. I really get into the story. I tend to keep going so I can hear more. I listen just when I’m working out…it helps to movitate me.
