Run at Sea

Today was a sea day…Key West to Grand Cayman.  Beautiful day….smooth water.  Did an easy 6 laps around the running deck.  Once I finished, I sat in one of the fancy wooden deck chairs while the hubby and girlie were having breakfast.  Sigh…quiet mommy time.

Pulling into Key West

I started my run as we were pulling into Key West.  The track at the bow of the ship was closed, so we couldn’t go all the way around the deck.  I went back and forth for 12 minutes…guessed it was about a mile; then sat to enjoy the sights of Key West come into view.

Turkey Trot

I was up early today to get ready to the Turkey Trot.  I went outside for the paper and it was slushing…yuck!  Because of the icky weather hubby and girlie stayed home.  By the time the race started it was just a light rain.  The temperature wasn’t too bad.  It was cold, but not unbearable.  I wore my warmer socks, fingerless gloves, and a light jacket.

On an exciting note this was my last run in the cold for a week.  My next run will in 80 degree weather…whoo hoo.  Three laps around the ship is a mile.  I’ve packed my running gear and plan to run at least 3 days while we’re gone.  Big plans…hopefully, I’ll follow through.

Have a great everyone…I’ll catch up with you when I get home.

Sunday run

I dropped girlie off at Sunday School and headed to the gym for a quick run.  It wasn’t very quick…but I ran anyway.  I’m guessing at my time based on the wall clock.  My HRM watch died 3 minutes into my run.  I need to get the battery replaced tomorrow, so I can have it for vacation.

Counterclockwise

I was finally able to make it to the gym on a counterclockwise day.  Yeah…didn’t like it.  It felt weird on my knees to run in that direction.  It didn’t help that I felt blah and didn’t want to be there.  I ran 8:1 x 3 (minus 1 walk).  The track was crowded…lots of walkers…a couple of runners.  I’m glad I went and finished, but wished I was more into it.  My next run is Sunday morning…hopefully, I’ll be more mentally ready.

Family Time

Well…kinda.  We all went to the gym together and we all came home together; but that’s where the togetherness ends.  The girlie went to the child center while hubby and I went to the track.  I ran. He walked.  I finished my 2 miles, picked up the girlie and waited for hubby.  It was a fun family trip.  I think it sets a good example for the girlie.

Sunday morning

I took the girlie to Sunday School and I did 2 laps around the church’s ‘hood.  I continued with the 8k training program I have.  Today 8:1 x 4.  It was a little windy and chilly, but beats the snow and cold that we’ll have sooner or later.

Let the training begin

I started the 5 mile training today using the app I downloaded for my iPhone.  Today started and ended with a 5 minute walk.  The rest of the workout was a 7 minute run and 1 minute walk…4 times.  It went well…except for the coughing during the walking.  I’m still getting over this ick I’ve had for the last 2 weeks.  The cough is almost gone…another couple of days of Mucinx.

Going the distance

So, in my last post I said I wanted to work on distance and work toward a 5 miler in March.  Well…I had a friend remind me the Soldier Field 10 mile (Chicago) registration opened today.  I thought long and hard…ok…really just 20 minutes and thought, “why not?”  At 10am this morning, I was online and signed up.

Running 10 miles will be worth crossing the finish at the 50 yard line of Soldier Field…your finish is also shown on the jumbotron.  I am an avid Bears fan…yes, even after the disappointing losses againt the Bengals and Cardnails.  It will be fabulous to be on the field.  In the past they’ve had kid races.  The kids get to run down the field.  I thought my girlie would love this (she’s a fan too).  I didn’t see it offered this year.  I sent them an email asking if it’ll be added.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Working on distance

I can run 2 miles…no problem.  I can run 3.1 miles on race day…no problem.  Running more than 2 miles on a regular basis…problem.  Not sure what the problem is, but I just lose the push to keep going.

I would love to run the Shamrock Shuffle 8k in March.  I need to work toward 5 miles.  I downloaded a program to my iPhone.  It’s from the same peeps who wrote the couch to 5k app I used in the Spring.  This app coaches you to run for an hour.  I’m going to start using it during my next run.
